The mainstream media has always had a strained relationship with the truth. At times, it’s as if they are just doing the bidding of Democrats.
And now CNN and MSNBC are totally embarrassed after being caught in a massive lie.
Media Missteps: CNN and MSNBC Downplay Anti-ICE Violence
CNN and MSNBC have faced sharp criticism for repeatedly labeling anti-ICE protests and riots across the U.S. as “mostly peaceful,” despite clear evidence of widespread unrest, according to a Media Research Center (MRC) study.
The networks’ insistence on this narrative, with 211 claims between June 7-11, glosses over violent incidents, including flash mob-style looting in Los Angeles, arson of police vehicles in New York City, and a car plowing through demonstrators in Chicago.
“No reporter acknowledged any link between the peaceful and violent elements of the crowds. The rioters were exclusively framed as ‘rogue actors,’ or ‘lone wolves,’ and there was never any assertion that they might share common cause with the more peaceful individuals,” said MRC’s Bill D’Agostino, who noted CNN’s 123 claims and MSNBC’s 88 overshadowed the reality of businesses boarding up and law enforcement making mass arrests.
Selective Reporting Ignores Escalating Chaos
The MRC study revealed that CNN and MSNBC consistently minimized the violence in cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Washington, North Carolina, Missouri, Texas, Indiana, Colorado, and Georgia, where anti-ICE protests turned destructive.
Videos and photos of torched police vehicles, vandalized businesses, and clashes with law enforcement flooded the internet, yet the networks stuck to their “mostly peaceful” mantra.
D’Agostino pointed out that only CNN’s Jake Tapper, on June 7, briefly referred to the Los Angeles chaos as a “riot.”
The networks’ refusal to connect the violent acts to the broader protests, instead blaming nebulous “rogue actors,” has drawn accusations of bias, particularly as they failed to note that the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines was targeted solely at the violent elements, not peaceful demonstrators.
National Guard and Marines Deployed Amid Media Silence
While CNN and MSNBC emphasized the “peaceful” nature of the protests, they largely ignored the necessity of federal intervention to curb the escalating violence.
“There was also no instance in which a reporter acknowledged that the National Guard and Marines had been mobilized exclusively to address the violent elements of the crowd,” D’Agostino observed, highlighting how the networks criticized the use of military force against “peaceful protesters” without acknowledging the context of looting, vandalism, and attacks on police.
This selective framing, coupled with the networks’ reluctance to label the unrest as riots, has fueled perceptions that CNN and MSNBC are more focused on pushing a narrative than reporting the full scope of the disorder, which has disrupted communities and strained law enforcement resources nationwide.
