Politicians should show some class. But not all of them always do.
Now a Democrat was caught on camera engaging in this disgusting act.
Lawmaker’s Reckless Post Fuels Outrage Over Political Violence
North Carolina State Rep. Julie von Haefen, a Democrat, ignited a firestorm by sharing a video on X from a Raleigh “No Kings” protest, featuring a grotesque image of a guillotine sign with what appeared to be President Donald Trump’s severed head adorned with a powdered wig, alongside another head marked with a swastika.
The post, which many viewed as glorifying violence, drew sharp condemnation, especially as American taxpayers fund the salaries of lawmakers expected to uphold civility, not inflame division.
“Political violence is not okay — the Left should stop encouraging it,” Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC) declared, echoing the sentiments of those appalled by von Haefen’s decision to amplify such imagery.
The Libs of TikTok account on X flagged the post as “sick,” tagging the FBI, prompting von Haefen to delete her X account and repost an edited version of the video on Facebook, omitting the offensive image.
Critics argue that taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for elected officials who promote such inflammatory content, especially in a climate already scarred by political violence.
Von Haefen’s Backpedaling Amid Bipartisan Condemnation
Facing backlash, von Haefen issued a statement claiming, “Yesterday, I posted a video on social media containing crowd photos from the No Kings protest in Raleigh. One of the images of a protestor holding a sign was inappropriate, and I later edited the video to remove the photo.”
She referenced the tragic Minnesota shootings, where House Democrat leader Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, adding, “Let me be clear: I condemn political violence in all forms.”
Yet, her initial decision to share the image—especially after two assassination attempts on Trump in 2024—has been slammed as tone-deaf and irresponsible.
“Her disgraceful behavior fails to meet the standards expected from House members and sets a dangerous precedent in an already volatile political climate,” said North Carolina House Speaker Destin Hall, who is exploring legal measures to address von Haefen’s actions.
The North Carolina GOP demanded her resignation, arguing that taxpayers deserve representatives who unite rather than divide. Von Haefen’s post, seen as endorsing violent imagery, has fueled calls for accountability, with critics noting that public funds should not support lawmakers who exacerbate tensions.
A Pattern of Provocation in a Taxpayer-Funded Arena
The controversy recalls comedian Kathy Griffin’s 2017 stunt, where she posed with a mock severed Trump head, sparking widespread outrage.
Von Haefen’s actions, coming from an elected official, carry even graver weight, especially as taxpayers fund the platform she misused. With political violence escalating—evidenced by the Minnesota tragedy and Trump’s near-assassinations—her post is seen as a betrayal of public trust.
“My focus remains on bringing people together and fighting for the values that matter to North Carolinians,” von Haefen claimed, but her critics argue that sharing such imagery undermines that goal and squanders taxpayer resources on divisive politics.
As Hall considers “next steps” to ensure such behavior isn’t repeated, the incident underscores a broader demand: elected officials, sustained by taxpayer dollars, must reject extremism and foster unity, not amplify dangerous rhetoric in an already polarized nation.
