Poor health is becoming a real issue for this politician. Hospital visits are becoming more common for them.
And a GOP Senator was rushed to the hospital for this scary reason.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) landed in the hospital Monday night, dealing with what his team calls flu-like symptoms. This comes as no surprise given the veteran lawmaker’s recent string of health scares, but his camp is staying optimistic.
Andrew Desiderio from Punchbowl News broke the story on X, sharing details from McConnell’s spokesman, David Popp. The update painted a picture of caution rather than crisis.
“In an abundance of caution, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, Senator McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation last night,” Popp stated.
“His prognosis is positive and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving.”
Popp went on to note that McConnell remains plugged in, handling duties from afar. He’s “in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.”
This health hiccup meant McConnell skipped out on key Senate votes both Monday and Tuesday, as Politico pointed out. It’s a reminder of how even top Republicans aren’t immune to everyday ailments.
But this isn’t the first time McConnell’s health has grabbed headlines. Back in October, Breitbart News’s Hannah Knudsen detailed a nasty fall he took amid harassment from radical leftists.
Knudsen reported that McConnell, now 83, was navigating the Russell basement when activists from the Sunrise Movement ambushed him with loaded questions about immigration enforcement:
“According to reports, McConnell — now 83 years old — was walking through the Russell basement while members of the leftist Sunrise Movement questioned him. In the beginning of the video, McConnell holds the arm of another person and eventually lets go, walking on his own. A questioner then asked him, ‘I want to ask, do you support ICE taking working people off the streets and kidnapping them?’”
“Right before she got to the end of her question, McConnell can be seen grabbing the arm of the man next to him before tumbling to the floor. Two people then helped pick him up, and McConnell proceeded to wave to the camera before slowly walking away with a man on each side. He walked out of the area on his own, without holding on to others for support.”
These kinds of confrontations from far-left groups like Sunrise Movement show the aggressive tactics they use against conservative leaders.
McConnell brushed it off and kept moving.
That October tumble followed another slip-up just months earlier. In December 2024, McConnell took a spill at the U.S. Capitol right “after the Senate Republican Conference’s weekly Tuesday lunch.”
Falls like these raise questions about the physical demands of D.C. politics, especially for older politicians like McConnell.
Beyond the falls, McConnell has faced other odd moments in the spotlight. In August 2023, during a press gaggle, he hit a snag when grilled about reelection plans.
Reporters watched as McConnell laughed and mumbled before he froze up. It was a brief but bizarre pause that fueled speculation.
