Accepting the NAACP’s Chairman’s Award, the former vice president urged the audience to “stay alert” and framed the current political climate as a battle for America’s future—a message clearly aimed at the Trump administration.
“Some see the flames on our horizons, the rising waters in our cities, the shadows gathering over our democracy and ask, what do we do now?” Harris said, striking a dramatic tone.
“But we know exactly what to do because we have done it before, and we will do it again. We use our power. We organize, mobilize. We educate, and we advocate.”
In a not-so-subtle jab at Trump and Musk, Harris declared:
“This chapter will be written not simply by whoever occupies the Oval Office, nor by the wealthiest among us. The American story will be written by you, written by us, by we, the people.”
The comment was an obvious reference to Trump, who defeated Harris in November, and Musk, who now leads the Department of Government Efficiency—a role focused on cutting bureaucratic waste and ending corporate handouts.
Harris, whose tenure as vice president was marred by plummeting approval ratings and border policy failures, tried to paint herself as a fighter against cynicism and destruction—despite voters overwhelmingly rejecting the Biden-Harris agenda just months ago.
Democrats Try to Save a Sinking Ship
Her speech comes as Democrats continue to flounder in the wake of their crushing election loss, struggling to rebuild their brand while Trump and his team deliver on America First promises.
In a stinging reminder of Harris’s failures, Trump referenced her disastrous tenure as Biden’s “border czar” during his Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) speech.
“I haven’t said that name in a while,” Trump quipped, drawing laughter from the Washington, D.C. crowd.
Meanwhile, Harris has already moved on to Hollywood, signing with the Creative Artists Agency to pursue speaking engagements and publishing deals.
