Donald Trump knew that running for office again would be dangerous. But still, people are surprised at the line that has now been crossed.
And Trump was attacked by a former liberal leader who has made serious threats.
In a recent appearance on MSNBC, former FBI Director James Comey launched a scathing attack on former President Donald Trump, warning that Trump’s re-election would pose a significant threat to the integrity of the FBI and the Justice Department.
Comey’s remarks have sparked widespread debate and concern, particularly among those who value the rule of law and the independence of these critical institutions.
His comments came during an interview with MSNBC host Alex Wagner, where he discussed the implications of Trump’s potential return to the White House.
Reflecting on the current court case involving Trump, Comey expressed confidence in the resilience of the American legal system, stating, “The rule of law in this country, especially the court system, has passed its stress test, slow on the federal side, but this is a great example for our people.”
However, Wagner pressed Comey further, asking whether he was concerned about the unprecedented challenges that could arise if Trump were to be re-elected.
“Are you concerned that it may get a test unlike any other if Donald Trump is re-elected?” she asked. “When you think about a second Trump administration, what do you think the implications would be for the FBI?”
Comey did not mince words in his response. “Serious,” he replied. “For the Justice Department and the FBI, because Trump is coming for those institutions. He knows their power and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time. So he’s coming for them and that’s a danger for all Americans.”
He elaborated on his fears, suggesting that Trump would appoint individuals who are willing to do his bidding, compromising the independence and integrity of these institutions.
“He’s gonna put people in positions in those organizations. He didn’t have All-Stars last time; he’ll have the bottom of the barrel this time … people who will want to do his will and that should worry every American,” Comey warned. “This election matters because of a reason like that.”
Comey also used the opportunity to make an impassioned plea for voter participation.
“People have to participate. You cannot sit on the sidelines. I don’t care how you feel about Joe Biden, you must vote for him because the consequences on the other side are too severe,” he urged.
Comey’s criticisms of Trump come against a backdrop of his own controversial tenure as FBI Director.
In June 2018, ABC News reported that the Justice Department’s internal watchdog, Inspector General Michael Horowitz, concluded that Comey had defied authority during his time at the FBI.
The draft report reportedly used the word “insubordinate” to describe Comey’s actions.
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) initiated an investigation following a referral from the FBI, which determined that Comey may have shared memos containing classified information with individuals outside the FBI.
The OIG’s findings were damning, stating, “Comey violated applicable policies and his FBI Employment Agreement by providing one of the unclassified memos that contained official FBI information, including sensitive investigative information, to his friend with instructions for the friend to share the contents of the memo with a reporter.”
The OIG further noted that Comey, while serving as FBI Director, kept copies of four of the seven memos in a personal safe at his home and, after his removal from the position, violated FBI policies by failing to notify the FBI that he had retained them.
Additionally, he provided copies of the memos to his three private attorneys without FBI authorization. These actions, the OIG concluded, were in clear violation of his obligations and FBI policies.
Many people understand that Comey’s allegations are politically motivated and that he, along with the entire Radical Left, is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Trump from office.
