Politicians rarely practice what they preach. But they don’t often get caught on camera exposing that.
Now a US Congresswoman is humiliated after being caught in this act of hypocrisy.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) stirred outrage after questioning the loyalty of DOGE chief Elon Musk—an American citizen for 22 years—based on his immigrant background.
Speaking outside the Capitol on Wednesday, Kaptur openly questioned whether Musk, who holds citizenship in South Africa, Canada, and the U.S., is truly loyal to America:
“Mr. Musk has just been here 22 years,” Kaptur said.
“And he’s a citizen of three countries. I always ask myself the question, with the damage he’s doing here, when push comes to shove, which country is his loyalty to? South Africa? Canada? Or the United States?”
Her xenophobic comments immediately sparked fierce backlash across social media, with conservatives slamming Kaptur’s hypocrisy—noting that Republicans would face outrage for making similar remarks.
Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), a legal immigrant, blasted Kaptur for demeaning immigrants who dare to challenge the Democrat agenda:
“Just like @elonmusk, I immigrated LEGALLY and pledged my full loyalty to America,” Moreno posted on X. “But Democrats just see us as cheap labor who pick their crops and mow their lawns. If you step out of line & question their liberal narrative, they say you don’t belong here. It’s disgusting.”
Others joined in condemning Kaptur’s remarks:
- “Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) is now a nativist when it comes to Elon Musk,” wrote Greg Price of the White House Rapid Response team.
- “A really bad thing for Marcy Kaptur to say,” added David Williams, Taxpayers Protection Alliance President, questioning whether Kaptur now opposes immigrants altogether.
- “Only immigrant the Democrats aren’t for,” mocked National Review editor Ramesh Ponnuru.
Even the White House’s official rapid response account condemned Kaptur, stating:
“@RepMarcyKaptur is now questioning the loyalty of American citizens. This is a new low.”
Jake Sherman, founder of Punchbowl News, noted this anti-immigrant tone represents a “new direction” for House Democrats—one that exposes their double standards.
The National Republican Congressional Committee didn’t hold back, calling out Democrats’ hypocrisy:
“Marcy Kaptur’s disgusting remark questioning Elon Musk’s loyalty based on his immigrant background exposes the Democrat Party’s descent into nativist rhetoric—the very thing they claim to oppose,” NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella told Fox News Digital.
“Their hypocrisy is clear: they champion open borders when it benefits them but resort to xenophobic attacks when an immigrant doesn’t align with their political agenda.”
Ironically, Kaptur previously signed a 2019 House resolution condemning President Trump for allegedly making xenophobic comments.
The resolution emphasized that “naturalized citizens are just as American as those whose families have been in the United States for generations.”
Yet when an immigrant like Musk pushes back against the Democrat agenda, Kaptur sings a different tune.
Musk has increasingly drawn Democrat ire in recent weeks for cutting federal spending and exposing wasteful government programs through DOGE. However, polling indicates that most Americans support Musk’s mission to rein in government excess.
If Kaptur’s comments reveal anything, it’s that Democrats will smear anyone—even legal immigrants—who challenges their grip on power. As Musk continues to expose the Biden administration’s failures, expect more desperate attacks from the left.
