The Vice President is kicking and screaming that she didn’t win. Now her and her staff are trying for anything.
And a Kamala aide announced a scary scheme to install Kamala in the White House.
Jamal Simmons, former communications director for Kamala Harris, made waves on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday by suggesting that President Joe Biden should step down within the month, effectively making Harris the president before the new administration takes office in January.
Simmons, a longtime Democratic strategist with experience working for Bill Clinton’s and Al Gore’s campaigns as well as the Democratic National Committee, recently served as Harris’s communications director from January 2022 to January 2023.
During his appearance on CNN, Simmons offered praise for Biden, calling him a “phenomenal president,” yet pointed out, “there’s one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure.”
“He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States.”
He added that this move would “absolve her from having to oversee the January 6 transition of her own defeat,” referencing the vice president’s ceremonial role in certifying the presidential election results on January 6.
In a notable parallel, then-Vice President Mike Pence famously broke with Trump and certified the 2020 election despite Trump’s claims of widespread fraud, which were ultimately unsubstantiated.
Following Biden’s withdrawal from the race in late July, Harris became the Democratic nominee, only to be defeated by Trump this week in a close election.
Trump secured both the popular vote and an Electoral College majority, ultimately taking 312 votes to Harris’s 226.
Simmons argued that Biden’s resignation would not only “dominate the news” but also “help Democrats learn drama and transparency and do things the public wants to see.” He added, “this is the moment for us to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate.”
After the broadcast, Simmons doubled down on his stance on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the Democratic Party “must realize the old rules no longer apply,” and that “Americans respond to drama and excitement.”
According to Simmons, Biden’s resignation would “turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over Jan 6, and make it easier for the next woman to run.”
The call for Biden’s resignation has gained traction on social media.
Allison Gill, a known Trump critic and former U.S. Department of Veterans employee, posted on X through her podcast Mueller, She Wrote, “Biden should resign so Harris becomes 47 and Donald has to throw out all his 47 swag.”
Attorney Joe Gallina’s organization, Call to Activism, echoed the sentiment, suggesting, “President Biden should resign as an act of protest tomorrow so Kamala Harris could be sworn in as the first female president until January. That would make Trump 48 and ruin that stupid hat of his.”
With his recent election win, Trump is set to be the 47th president, following his first term as the 45th, putting him alongside Grover Cleveland as the only U.S. presidents to serve two nonconsecutive terms.
Not everyone agreed with Simmons’ idea. Symone D. Sanders Townsend, co-host of MSNBC’s The Weekend, criticized the calls for Biden’s resignation, tweeting:
“To these people saying President Biden should resign so VP Harris could be POTUS for a few weeks. Do you hear yourselves? The Oval Office is not a d*mn game. Smh.”
