In a bold move to uphold human dignity and protect vulnerable populations, two leading U.S. Catholic bishops have praised recent Congressional efforts to advance a budget that prioritizes life-affirming values.
Their statements reflect a growing momentum to redirect taxpayer funds away from practices that undermine the sanctity of life and family, aligning with policies championed by President Trump’s administration.

Bishop Daniel E. Thomas, chair of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop Robert E. Barron, chair of the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth, have enthusiastically endorsed provisions in the House budget reconciliation bill that cut federal funding to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.
“For decades, Planned Parenthood has received government money and offered low-income women one terrible option: to end the lives of their babies,” the bishops stated. This legislation, they argue, takes a courageous step toward ensuring taxpayer dollars no longer subsidize abortions, aligning with the Hyde Amendment’s strict limits to cases of rape, incest, or life-threatening situations for the mother.

The bishops sharply criticized the use of taxpayer funds to promote “gender ideology,” particularly through the provision of puberty blockers and hormones to young people. “More recently, they have used the same taxpayer funds to expand their destructive offerings, by promoting gender ideology and providing puberty blockers and hormones to minors, turning them into lifelong patients in the process,” they said.
