The Radical Left has been showing its true colors this week at the DNC. But this recent development has horrified millions.
And the Democrats’ sickening hypocrisy has been on full display during pro-terror events at the DNC.
In an era where the principles of justice and equality are often proclaimed loudly by the Democratic Party, their recent actions regarding pro-Israel demonstrators reveal a disturbing hypocrisy.
On Tuesday, a pro-Israel group was denied a permit to march during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) and instead gathered in a makeshift “Hostage Square” in Chicago’s West Loop to ensure their voices were heard.
The denial of this permit is not just an isolated incident; it’s a glaring example of how the Democratic Party has increasingly pandered to pro-Palestinian terror supporters while sidelining those who stand with Israel.
The term “Hostage Square” has deep significance. The original Hostage Square is located in front of an art museum in Tel Aviv, Israel, a space that became a gathering place for the families of kidnapped and missing Israelis following the Hamas terror attack on October 7.
The makeshift Hostage Square in Chicago mirrors this tragic yet resilient symbol, drawing attention to the victims of Hamas — particularly the U.S. citizens who were either murdered or taken hostage.
Among these American hostages are Keith Siegel, 65, Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, Omer Neutra, 22, Edan Alexander, 20, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23. Their plight should stir the conscience of every American, yet the Democratic leadership has shown little more than lip service in response.
The Chicago Hostage Square features art installations that are both poignant and powerful, with a particular focus on the human cost of Hamas’ barbarity. One such installation, created by Israeli designer Neil Salti, is a tree that honors the 403 victims of the Hamas attack on the Nova music festival.
Visitors to the site are encouraged to write messages or the names of victims on nearby rocks, a somber yet meaningful tribute. Salti himself lost 25 friends at Nova, many of whom were DJs or art designers for the festival. His tree includes a rope around the trunk, symbolizing the ropes found at the festival site, believed to have been used on r*pe victims.
This art, born out of unimaginable pain, serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of evil.
Salti’s girlfriend, Orly Birnbaum, shared a harrowing account of her friend Karla, who was burned so badly at the festival that she was only identified through dental records.
Such stories underscore the unimaginable horror faced by the victims of Hamas, a terror group whose atrocities are often minimized or ignored by certain factions within the Democratic Party.
Andrea Weinstein, the younger sister of Judih Weinstein, a resident of Kibbutz Nir Oz who was murdered along with her husband Gadi Haggai by Hamas terrorists, attended the event without knowing that her sister’s photograph would be prominently displayed.
She recounted how her sister and brother-in-law, who cherished their morning routine of espresso and a walk, were mercilessly murdered during one of these peaceful strolls.
The Democrats’ refusal to provide a platform for pro-Israel voices is emblematic of a party increasingly swayed by radical elements that view Israel with hostility.
The Democratic convention has notably downplayed the role of Jewish or pro-Israel speakers, a move that seems to be a direct response to the growing tensions within the party over the war in Gaza.
While thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters — including Hamas supporters — were permitted to march on the convention site on Monday, pro-Israel groups were systematically denied similar opportunities. This double standard is not only hypocritical but also dangerous, as it emboldens anti-Semitic sentiments within the party and the broader American left.
Vice President Kamala Harris, who is eager to appease these radical elements, has reportedly done so in secret. President Joe Biden, during his address to the convention on Monday, acknowledged the protesters’ grievances, even going so far as to say they “have a point.” Yet, in a speech that spanned several minutes, he failed to mention Israel even once.
This omission speaks volumes about the priorities of the Democratic leadership — a leadership that is increasingly willing to sacrifice its Jewish constituents on the altar of political expediency.
The contrast with the Republican Party could not be starker. The Republican Jewish Coalition has promised to plant 1,800 trees in Israel for every speaker at the Democratic convention who praises Israel.
On the convention’s first day, there were no takers. This gesture by the Republicans is more than symbolic; it’s a clear message that they stand with Israel and the Jewish people, a stance that the Democratic Party seems to have abandoned.
Amidst this political turmoil, Hostage Square in Chicago has become a refuge for pro-Israel activists, many of whom feel besieged by the overwhelming presence of pro-Palestinian groups at the convention. These groups were granted permits by the City of Chicago for their march, while pro-Israel groups were relegated to the sidelines. Even a Christian-led pro-Israel counterprotest on Monday was confined to the sidewalk, forced to march around the perimeter of a pro-Palestinian rally. This unequal treatment further highlights the disturbing bias that has taken root within the Democratic establishment.
Hostage Square is the only pro-Israel event near the convention, and the fear of anti-Semitic attacks is so high that its location was deliberately not publicized. This speaks to the dangerous rise in anti-Semitic sentiments, a trend that has been exacerbated by the Democrats’ pandering to radical elements within their base.
Unlike the original Hostage Square in Israel, which is a permanent fixture, this Chicago version will only last a day. But its impact, organizers hope, will be lasting, providing some solace to a Jewish community that has been traumatized by events in Israel, the explosion of anti-Semitism in America, and the ambivalence — if not outright hostility — of the Democratic Party and its leadership.
The hypocrisy of the Democrats in allowing pro-Palestinian terror supporters to demonstrate while denying pro-Israel voices a similar platform is not just a political issue; it’s a moral one.
The rise in anti-Semitic feelings within the Democratic Party is a clear and present danger, not just to the Jewish community, but to the very fabric of American society. The Democratic leadership must be held accountable for their actions, and the Jewish community must not be abandoned in the face of this growing threat.
