Key Democrats suddenly change course and praise Donald Trump

This might be the weirdest presidential election season. Democrats in particular are all over the place.

Because key Democrats have just suddenly changed course to praise Donald Trump.

As the 2024 campaign approaches its climax, several Democratic Senate candidates are surprisingly touting policies from former President Donald Trump in their advertisements. Senators Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, along with Michigan Representative Elissa Slotkin, have recently unveiled new political ads that highlight Trump-era initiatives.

Tammy Baldwin’s latest ad focuses on increasing the use of American materials in domestic infrastructure projects. In the advertisement, Baldwin states, “We can’t let China steal Wisconsin jobs, so I wrote a law to require American infrastructure projects use American iron and steel.” The ad further emphasizes her achievements, noting, “Tammy Baldwin got President Trump to sign her Made in America bill. And then, she got President Biden to make it permanent.”

In a related vein, Senator Bob Casey has also launched an ad that aligns with Trump’s pro-fracking stance. The ad touts, “Casey’s leading the effort to stop corporate greedflation and price gouging. Casey bucked Biden to protect fracking, and he sided with Trump to end NAFTA and put tariffs on China to stop them from cheating.” Trump himself has been vocal about fracking, supporting the idea that local voters should determine its future.

Meanwhile, Elissa Slotkin has released a television advertisement critiquing electric vehicle (EV) mandates, a policy she previously endorsed. In the ad, Slotkin asserts, “I’m Elissa Slotkin, I live on a dirt road, nowhere near a charging station. So I don’t own an electric car. No one should tell us what to buy, and no one’s gonna mandate anything. But here’s the thing, if there’s going to be a new generation of vehicles, I want that new generation built right here in Michigan, not China. I approve this message because what you drive is your call, no one else’s.”

This statement comes as the Biden-Harris administration continues to push initiatives aimed at increasing EV adoption, including plans to install 500,000 charging stations by 2030. However, progress has been slow, leading many U.S. autoworkers to reconsider their support for the Biden administration in favor of Trump.

Slotkin’s race against Republican opponent Mike Rogers is particularly close, as indicated by a recent Quinnipiac poll that classifies Michigan as a tossup state. As these candidates navigate their campaigns, the blending of Democratic rhetoric with Trump’s policies signals a complex political landscape in the lead-up to the election.

Even Kamala Harris herself has had a stark change of mind and endorsed quite a few big Donald Trump policies, such as “No Tax On Tips” which she announced she supported after Donald had already done so months before her.

She’s been facing intense criticism for failing to give a legitimate answer for how different her “core values” in politics are now that she’s in a general election race compared to when she was running in the Democrat primary four years ago.

There’s no easy way to explain how she went from saying fracking needs to be outright banned four years ago to saying that she’s a “big supporter” of fracking and all energy sources for America. She quite literally said it was “no question” four years ago.
