The Left isn’t ready for the second Trump term. And it’s already starting.
And now one Trump appointment put Democrats on notice with one serious threat.
President-elect Donald Trump’s newly appointed “border czar,” Tom Homan, is sending a firm message to New York City and other sanctuary jurisdictions: nothing will stand in the way of deporting criminal migrants.
“If we can’t get assistance from New York City, we may have to double the number of agents we send to New York City,” Homan told Fox & Friends on Monday. “Because we’re going to do the job with you or without you.”
Tasked with securing the border and executing the deportation of millions of migrants residing illegally in the U.S., Homan made it clear to the New York Post that he wants President Trump to ramp up pressure on New York City and other sanctuary cities that refuse to help in deporting criminal migrants.
“I’m hoping the president files a lawsuit against them and withholds federal funding,” Homan stated, aiming to push sanctuary cities toward cooperation.
Homan stressed that his preference is to work with local law enforcement to identify detained migrants and transfer them into ICE custody. But if local police are blocked from aiding federal agents, he warned, “then we’ll wait til they get out of jail, then we’ll go out into the neighborhoods and get them.”
“If they’re not willing to do it, then get out of the way — we’re coming,” he added.
Homan acknowledges that tackling immigration enforcement in sanctuary cities will require considerable manpower.
“So if I have to flood agents to the sanctuary cities to get the job done then that’s what we’re gonna do,” he said.
On Sunday, Trump officially appointed Homan, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during his first administration, to replace Vice President Kamala Harris in the position — a post which has seen record illegal crossings under her oversight, with over 8 million migrants entering the country in the past four years.
“I’m going to be extremely successful because I’m following failure,” Homan asserted.
An ex-cop and former border agent from West Carthage, New York, Homan originally joined ICE under President Barack Obama in 2013. At the Republican National Convention in July, he boldly promised that if Trump won the election, he would “run the biggest deportation operation this country’s ever seen.”
“No one has better ideas for strong border security than him,” said former ICE Denver chief John Fabbricatore, calling Homan’s appointment “a step in the right direction” to turn the page on the previous administration’s chaotic border policies.
“Having had the privilege to work under Tom Homan, I can confidently say he is a ‘cop’s cop.’ His decades of immigration operational experience and no-nonsense approach are perfectly suited for the role of Border Czar,” he said. “Tom will enforce the law effectively and humanely. I’m confident that he’ll assemble a capable team to address the challenges at the border efficiently.”
Derek Maltz, a colleague of Homan’s at their nonprofit Border911, believes Homan will zero in on illegal immigrant “ghost criminals,” terrorists, and other violent offenders. “Tom understands this, plus he’s got very, very intelligent and experienced partners that he’s worked with on these issues of immigration. He’s the perfect guy.”
Recently, Homan has been vocal on news programs about the border crisis, calling it “the biggest national security vulnerability this nation has seen since 9/11” on Fox News’ Fox & Friends.
Homan’s first mission as border czar will be to visit the border itself, assess the “latest issues” agents face, and understand their operational challenges, he told The Post. He plans to meet directly with agents and leaders across major immigration enforcement agencies.
“I’m not coming in and making major changes on day one as far as the agencies are concerned, but they’re going to have a whole new prioritization.”
The border crisis has stretched resources thin, to the point that agents responsible for securing the border have been pulled off patrol to handle tasks like “making sandwiches, changing diapers and making baby formula,” Homan explained.
“When you take most border agents off the border during this humanitarian crisis, that’s when the fentanyl comes across that’s k*lled a quarter-million Americans. That’s when the s*x trafficking increased 600%. That’s when suspected terrorists cross into this country,” he emphasized.
