There is unrest within the Republican Party. Things are looking rather shaky.
And the Trump admin has gone on the attack against this longtime GOP senator.
In a pointed speech at the Jerusalem Post Annual Conference, Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz delivered a strong message about how America’s relationship with Israel should actually work.
He pushed back against Senator Ted Cruz’s recent broadsides against President Donald Trump, arguing that Israel’s strongest supporters in America need to show more discipline and put U.S. national interests as a top priority.
Bruesewitz made clear that Israel stands as “one of America’s closest and most capable allies.” Yet he didn’t shy away from tough truths. Public support for that partnership has slipped in recent years.
The adviser stressed that those who back the U.S.-Israel relationship must learn to make their case in language that connects with everyday Americans.
Endless lectures and immediate attacks on any leader questioning foreign entanglements simply won’t cut it anymore.
“The strongest alliances are built on clear, align national interests. Not unconditional deference. Healthy partnerships, like our special relationship with the United Kingdom allow friends to speak candidly when needed while maintaining deep cooperation where interests align,” Bruesewitz stated.
He pointed to President Trump’s record of straight talk with allies. Trump has criticized the U.K. at times and has poked fun at Canada, yet those partnerships remain rock solid because they rest on mutual respect rather than one-sided demands.
“President Trump has criticized allies like the U.K., and even joked about Canada without damaging those vital partnerships,” Bruesewitz noted.
This America First approach stands in sharp contrast to the knee-jerk reactions coming from some quarters in Washington.
Bruesewitz highlighted how certain voices rush to paint any diplomatic move as betrayal, even before facts emerge.
“For example, when reports emerged of a potential U.S.-Iran deal, Senator Ted Cruz, oftentimes called ‘Lyin’ Ted’ immediately accused President Trump and his administration of appeasing Iran, before any of the details were even known,” he continued.
Cruz’s quick trigger finger reveals a deeper problem in how some self-described pro-Israel voices operate.
Instead of trusting Trump’s proven record of strength against Iran through maximum pressure, they jump straight to accusations that undermine their own president’s efforts.
