This country is at a crossroads. And the time for action is now.
And the Democratic Socialist Co-Chair admitted her terrible plan for America.
The national co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America stunned viewers Sunday by proudly confirming a sweeping list of the organization’s radical policy goals — including abolishing the U.S. Senate, eliminating prisons and doing away with national borders — drawing rebukes from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.
DSA Co-Chair Confirms Radical Platform Point by Point
Speaking to Fox News’ Shannon Bream, DSA national co-chair Megan Romer fired off a series of “yes” and “true” responses when asked whether the organization’s platform calls for dismantling major American institutions.
“[You’re advocating for] abolish[ing] the Senate?” Bream asked.
“True,” Romer responded.
Romer also affirmed the organization’s support for replacing the presidency and Supreme Court, abolishing ICE, eventually eliminating national borders while granting amnesty to people living in the country illegally, defunding the Pentagon, phasing out prisons and shifting most large corporations to public ownership. She said some proposals, including abolishing borders and prisons, are part of the organization’s long-term vision.
Republicans and Even a Democrat Sound the Alarm
The comments triggered swift backlash. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, wrote, “These people are insane.”
House Speaker Mike Johnson posted, “Read their platform: Abolish the Senate, the Presidency, the Supreme Court and immigration enforcement. Open the border wide. Grant mass amnesty. Defund the Pentagon. The barbarians are inside the gate—and Democrats are WELCOMING them in! Communism is no longer a far-fetched threat. It is here on our SHORES! This isn’t just Common Sense vs. Crazy anymore. It’s Common Sense vs. COMMUNISM.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., warned, “The DSA isn’t just gaining influence in New York or California. Bernie Sanders- and Mamdani-backed candidates are winning races across the country. Watch this clip closely. These ideas could be coming to your community sooner than you think.”
Notably, the criticism wasn’t confined to Republicans. Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman also called out Romer’s comments on X, writing, “This isn’t a big tent—it’s anarchy. Why can’t Dems call out the DSA?”
Investor Bill Ackman, an outspoken critic of New York City’s socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, added, “This is insane. How can anyone vote for a @DemSocialists member unless you are an anarchist?”
Wisconsin GOP Candidate Ties DSA Rhetoric to Democratic Gubernatorial Hopeful
Tom Tiffany, a Republican running for governor in Wisconsin, said Romer’s remarks echoed the positions of democratic socialist Francesca Hong, who is running in the state’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, writing that Hong has supported abolishing police, abolishing prisons and abolishing the Senate.
A spokesperson for Hong pushed back, telling Fox News Digital that “Tom Tiffany is once again telling lies and inventing quotes” and that Hong “has never called for abolishing the U.S. Senate,” though the spokesperson acknowledged Hong has spoken about police and prison abolition “as an aspirational goal” in the past. Hong’s campaign website lists the Milwaukee, Northeast Wisconsin and Madison DSA chapters among her endorsements.
Socialist Momentum Continues to Build Nationally
The controversy comes as socialist platforms and campaigns continue gaining traction nationally, including in New York, where two House candidates backed by Mamdani defeated incumbent progressive lawmakers and are likely headed to victory in November, while a third open House race saw a Mamdani-backed candidate defeat an establishment-backed Democrat. The DSA did not immediately return Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
